A coffered ceiling in substantial woodwork is trending now. We’ve seen it done in white woodwork on a white ceiling, and we’ve loved white coffered wood on a deep hued ceiling. In a family room a coffered ceiling adds warmth to a big space rather than a white void.

Beams are big and so is a wood paneled ceiling. We’ve added ceiling fans to porches and family rooms that boast wood ceilings equally at home in cottage style or midcentury modern as Victorian. Paint the wood in flat white and let the character of the wood show through or use a gloss paint that begs you to look up. Stained wood ceilings bring the rustic feel of the outdoors into your screen porch and pull your design elements up.
