As fall rushes in, we’re all in the kitchen a lot. Dinners to prep, school lunches to bag, homework to check, a presentation to polish, a quiet coffee in the morning before another epic day of go, go, go. And for some reason you thought it would be good to give the kitchen a zhuzh this fall? It’s ok. Really. We’re here for you.

Last week we talked about the ways you use your kitchen and started with the core lighting every kitchen needs. Under-cabinet lighting, recessed lighting, and something really perfect over the sink. Now let’s get to the fun stuff. You chose a pendant to float over the sink, and you really like it. Let’s explore a little more of your lighting style. Mid-century modern with its sinuous shapes and pops of color? Or cottage core with it’s heart tugging mix of old and new? Maybe it’s rustic luxe that’s part native terrain and part Colorado Rockies. And yes, maybe it's farmhouse-style with an open floorplan and scullery. Whatever your style, we’ll show you how to bring it home in the lighting.

If you have a kitchen table, make sure you have the right light. Those recessed pin lights graze the tabletop and bounce a little light off the chandelier. And not some old school, builder’s special chandelier, this is the fixture that brings your kitchen style together so choose bold and beautiful. It’s ok, we’ll guide you to the right light, no mistakes and no regrets.

If you have an island, you’ll need lighting. Islands demand it. In an open floor plan an island becomes the focus in so many ways. The prep space, the breakfasts served, the appetizers displayed during the big football game on TV with half the neighborhood. You can see that one light will not work here. Start with recessed lights to add some serious light to your workspace. We’ll put that on a dimmer, hey we put it ALL on a dimmer to give you control.Doesn’t that sound fabulous? Control....

Then we’ll help you choose some pendants big enough to balance out the air space over your island. Those pendants will add another layer of light AND another layer of your style. And at the Parade of Homes, we showed off some very cool open shelving in kitchens with wall sconces. Pure style and wow, did they pop.

Winter is coming, so let’s get hopping here. We’ll help you choose the lighting, find an electrician if you don’t have one, and guide you through the process of a kitchen lighting update. This is an important update. Your kitchen is your home’s heart and soul. Come and see us at Madison Lighting and get started.
